Mechanism of action
Epirubicin and pirarubicin are anthracyclines that intercalate DNA strands, inhibiting the enzyme topoisomerase II and inducing DNA damage. Fluorouracil is an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase, leading to the accumulation of toxic metabolites and DNA damage. Hydroxycamptothecin is a topoisomerase I inhibitor that blocks the enzyme's ability to repair DNA damage, leading to cell death.
