Mechanism of action
These drugs bind to and activate dopamine receptors (D1, D2, D3, D4, or D5 subtypes) on neurons, mimicking the effects of endogenous dopamine. By enhancing dopaminergic neurotransmission, they are used to treat conditions characterized by dopamine deficiency or dysfunction, such as Parkinson's disease and restless leg syndrome. Different agonists have varying receptor selectivity and pharmacokinetic profiles.
