Mechanism of action
Ferrous sulfate is an iron supplement that delivers ferrous (Fe2+) iron, which is readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The absorbed iron is incorporated into hemoglobin and myoglobin, restoring oxygen-carrying capacity and correcting iron deficiency anemia. This is particularly important in pediatric populations where iron deficiency can impair cognitive and physical development.
