Corticosteroids (Prednisone)
Corticosteroids (Prednisone) is a Corticosteroid (glucocorticoid) Small molecule drug developed by Astellas Pharma Inc. It is currently FDA-approved for Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune inflammatory conditions, Adrenocortical insufficiency (Addison's disease), Allergic reactions and asthma. Also known as: Methylprednisolone, Prednisone.
Prednisone is a corticosteroid that binds to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm, translocates to the nucleus, and suppresses inflammatory gene expression and immune cell activation.

Mechanism of action
Prednisone exerts broad immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects by binding intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, which then modulate transcription of pro-inflammatory cytokines, adhesion molecules, and immune mediators. This reduces production of inflammatory mediators, decreases immune cell proliferation and migration, and stabilizes lysosomal membranes. The drug is used across multiple therapeutic areas due to its potent but non-selective suppression of immune and inflammatory responses.
