Combined epidural and spinal anesthesia
Combined epidural and spinal anesthesia is a Regional anesthetic technique Small molecule drug developed by Instituto Materno Infantil Prof. Fernando Figueira. It is currently in Phase 3 development for Obstetric anesthesia for labor and delivery, Lower abdominal and lower extremity surgical procedures. Also known as: Local anesthetics, spinal opioides.
Combined epidural and spinal anesthesia delivers local anesthetic agents into both the epidural space and cerebrospinal fluid to block nerve transmission and produce surgical anesthesia.

Mechanism of action
This technique combines two regional anesthesia approaches: epidural anesthesia (medication injected into the space surrounding the spinal cord dura) and spinal anesthesia (medication injected directly into cerebrospinal fluid). The combined approach allows for rapid onset of anesthesia from the spinal component while providing extended duration and flexibility through the epidural catheter, blocking sensory and motor nerve impulses in the lower body.
