Mechanism of action

Clomiphene citrate competitively binds estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and pituitary, blocking endogenous estrogen feedback and thereby increasing FSH and LH secretion to stimulate ovulation or spermatogenesis. The addition of estradiol provides direct estrogen replacement or supplementation. This combination is used in hormone replacement and fertility protocols.
