Mechanism of action
CitraFleet combines sodium picosulfate (a stimulant laxative) with magnesium citrate (an osmotic agent) to produce rapid bowel evacuation. The sodium picosulfate stimulates colonic contractions while the magnesium citrate creates an osmotic gradient that draws fluid into the intestinal lumen, resulting in thorough bowel cleansing without significant fluid and electrolyte depletion.
