Mechanism of action
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that prevents bacterial DNA replication by inhibiting essential enzymes. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole that is activated in anaerobic environments to produce cytotoxic free radicals that disrupt microbial DNA. Together, they provide broad-spectrum coverage against aerobic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria as well as anaerobic organisms.
