Mechanism of action
The product combines chlorhexidine gluconate (a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent) with isopropyl alcohol to provide rapid and sustained skin antisepsis. Chlorhexidine disrupts bacterial cell membranes and denatures proteins, while the alcohol component provides rapid microbicidal activity. Together, they reduce the microbial flora on the skin to prevent surgical site infections and other procedure-related contamination.
