Bupivacaine with intrathecal morphine
Bupivacaine with intrathecal morphine is a Local anesthetic with intrathecal opioid Small molecule drug developed by Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois. It is currently FDA-approved for Perioperative analgesia and anesthesia, Spinal anesthesia with enhanced postoperative pain control.
Bupivacaine blocks sodium channels in nerve fibers to provide local anesthesia, while intrathecal morphine binds to opioid receptors in the spinal cord to provide analgesia.

Mechanism of action
Bupivacaine is a long-acting local anesthetic that prevents nerve impulse transmission by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. Morphine, when administered intrathecally (directly into cerebrospinal fluid), acts on mu-opioid receptors in the spinal cord to modulate pain signaling. This combination provides both immediate local anesthetic effect and prolonged opioid-mediated analgesia for perioperative pain management.
