Mechanism of action
Budesonide, beclomethasone, and fluticasone are all inhaled corticosteroids that work by activating intracellular glucocorticoid receptors in airway epithelial and immune cells. This activation suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory mediators (cytokines, chemokines, adhesion molecules) and reduces recruitment of inflammatory cells to the airways. The result is decreased airway inflammation, mucus production, and bronchial hyperresponsiveness.
