Mechanism of action

Betamethasone exerts its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects by entering cells and binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors, which then translocate to the nucleus and modulate gene transcription. This leads to decreased production of inflammatory mediators such as cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules, and reduces immune cell activation and migration. The drug is commonly used in pediatric populations for conditions requiring rapid anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive action.
