Mechanism of action
Balanced salt solutions are sterile, isotonic formulations containing essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride) and buffers that mimic aqueous humor composition. They are used as irrigating solutions during intraocular procedures to maintain anterior chamber stability, protect corneal endothelium, and preserve tissue integrity throughout surgical manipulation.
