Mechanism of action

Chloraprep combines chlorhexidine gluconate and isopropyl alcohol to provide rapid and sustained antimicrobial activity. Chlorhexidine disrupts bacterial cell membranes and denatures proteins, while isopropyl alcohol provides rapid bactericidal action. Together, these agents reduce skin flora to prevent surgical site infections and other skin-related infections.
